Ok, well Billy has been releasing records, painting, writing
poetry and novels since 1977, His first band was The
Pop Rivits, then he joined The
Milkshakes alongside Bruce Brand
and Mickey Hampshire, Thee Mighty
Ceasers, The Blackhands, Thee
Headcoats, and currently the
Buff Medways.
Often cited as a genius by Americans like Beck,
Mudhoney, Nirvana and
more recently The White Stripes he does
at last seem to be getting the recognition that all that
hard work surely deserves.
As you can see we've released more than our fair share
of his albums including a couple of great compilations worth
checking out if you're new to his music.
Damgood 210 is '25 years of being Childish'
a 50 song double CD featuring tracks from all his bands
as well as rare solo stuff as well.
Damgood 178 is a double CD of all Thee Headcoats singles.
There's also the first two albums he released by The Pop
Rivets (Damgood 217/218)
And the most recent releases...
Buff Medways 'Medway wheelers'
A classic in the making, top notch garage punk with a 60's
twist.
Billy Childish & The Chatham Singers 'Heavens
Journey' his first Blues album for over 5 years
and this one even has some poetry on it too. Going back
to his rawest days but with excellent songs this is a pretty
special album.
Also look out for collaborations with Sexton
Ming on Damgood 159 and 208, they've been working
together since 1979 writing poetry, playing music and painting
pictures together when they formed Phyroid Press. Their
work together, documented by several LP's and 25 small press
publications, is inspired by the early Dadaists, Edward
Lear, Captain Beefheart and the literature of the absurd.
The Guardian described their material as 'An authentic
output of creative play'. Billy and Sexton describe it as
'A smoking chimney stack that falls over and crushes your
wife and kids'. Curiously both are true.
Here's a few press quotes...

NME
